A photo of a book propped up and in the foreground more of the same book spread out as a display. The cover of the book features an artist contemplating her work in progress in a studio. She is looking down at a table where she is working with obsolete keyboards and you can see the underside of several keyboard panels.

Description

Catalogue for Jean Shin‘s 2006 exhibition TEXTile at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. The main work of this exhibition was an interactive “fabric” embedded with thousands of keyboard keys, which spelled out the e-mail correspondence between Shin and the FWM staff members she collaborated with. The “fabric” was 46 inches wide and 25 feet long, and was fixed to a desk-shaped armature at one end, with three rows of interactive keys. At the other end of the fabric was plain cloth, upright to create a projection screen. Visitors were able to type on the keyboard, and whatever they wrote would be projected at the other end of the cloth, above what had been previously written, creating an endless communication.
