Mel Chin: Soil and Sky

1

Description

In the fall of 1992, The Fabric Workshop and Swarthmore College collaboratively presented Mel Chin's two-site installation, Soil and Sky. On the top floor of our first Vine St. location, Degrees of Paradise was installed overlooking the city skyline while Swarthmore housed Landscape.

This catalogue explores six years of Mel Chin's work consulting weavers, scientists, and computer programmers alike to create these designs which sought to mimic the depletion of the ozone. The book includes a foreword from FWM founder Marion "Kippy" Stroud and an essay by Thomas McEvilley.
