Ahmed Alsoudani is an internationally recognized artist originally from Baghdad, Iraq. This catalogue of his work was published on the occasion of his solo exhibition, Ahmed Alsoudani, at the Marlborough Gallery NYC in Summer of 2021. Alsoudani uses detailed, figurative abstraction to convey bodies thrown around with objects and masses of vibrant color, torn apart by violence unseen. Through repeating symbolism, Alsoudani creates a chaotic universe with grotesque depictions of human suffering, gesturing back to his experience growing up in a war-torn country. This book begins with a foreword by renowned Syrian poet Adonis, printed in Arabic and translated to English by Kareem James Abu-Zeid, followed by an essay by New York based art critic Raphael Rubinstein.
