This is a catalogue published in conjunction with Ahmed Alsoudani‘s 2013 exhibition Redacted, which was on display at the Phoenix Art Museum and the Portland Museum of Art. Ahmed Alsoudani is an Iraqi born artist whose large abstract paintings depict grotesque, chaotic mash-ups of bodies and limbs contorted by ambiguous shapes, machine parts, and suggestions of environment. Growing up in and subsequently fleeing a war-torn country, Alsoudani’s work can be seen as a visually captivating, albeit disturbing, homage to man’s capacity for violence and terror. This catalogue includes a foreword by James K. Ballinger and Mark H.C Bessire. It also includes essays by Christian Viveros-Faune, Mark Bessire, and Sara Cochran.
