Artist Betty Woodman (1930—2018) was an internationally-recognized contemporary ceramicist whose work evolved to span a wide range of mediums. Platters is a 5-color screenprinted yardage featuring playful patterns in pastels and green in abstract platter-shaped cutouts on top of a black background. The “container” motif was very present in Woodman’s work; as she explored the meaning behind a vessel, she also blurred the line between fine art and craft, beauty and function. Platters was originally printed in FWM’s studios in 1980, and a new run of the design was printed in 2021 after it was selected as the winner in a runoff as part of our 2021 Spring Benefit.
